More Insulation and Drywall

Okay, they ran out of foam on Friday. But that's okay! They came back today. The drywall is almost completely hung, except where they need to foam (of course). Camera is on order, so hopefully next week I'll have more pictures!

Also, the temperatures are supposed to stay in the 50's this week, so maybe the garage floor is coming soon? We'll see!

Step #something...Insulation and some drywall

Okay, my camera is missing. Which means I lost it. But that's neither here nor there. Anyway...I wish I could take pictures now, because we have some awesome stuff going on at the house! They came yesterday to start the spray foam insulation. The company is called Best Solutions Building out of Pittsfield and they seem great! The foam is a poly-based 1/2 pound open-cell foam that provides a complete air barrier, which is great to seal your house! It now looks like we have really stiff cotton balls in all of the 2x6 cavities of the house. It's really neat to see the process. It looks like they are spray painting milk, and the "SCHOOOM" it expands and completely fills the entire cavity. Then, they come along with a grinder and smooth it so that it's even with the studs. Very neat. They finished the first floor yesterday, and will hopefully finish up the basement today and start on the bonus room tomorrow.

Kyle has already put the drywall up on the ceilings so that Dave and my dad could blow in R38 insulation into the attic. I even got to help a little with the cellulose and it was ever-so-fun. Now Kyle can start hanging the wall-sheetrock on the areas that are all foamed and cleaned up.

The house is a horrible mudpit, as usual. Bob, the insulator, got MAJORLY stuck and it took another tractor and truck to get him out. But he made it, which is all that matters.

I have a new camera on order, so I'll hopefully be able to post more pictures in a week!

February 15, 2008

The deck is almost finished! So is the wiring and so is the plumbing. Next comes insulation and then drywall. Yippee!

Here is the view looking to the right (east) of the deck...standing where you would if you walked out of the living room french doors.

And here is the view looking left, towards our bedroom. There will also be a little landing next to our bedroom so there is acess to the "top" of the backyard.

Here are the stairs going to the walkout part of the basement. There will eventually be a stair rail and concrete patio there.

They also started digging for our geo-thermal coils.

January 22...even more decking (and some lights!)

Still working on the decking! They got the rest of the deck laid, and started putting the posts in. Dave and Jason finished up almost all of the electric, but since Dave is gone for the next 13 days (boo) it will be awhile longer before they are 100% finished. The plumber forgot to do the 1/2 bath, and we need to build the pony wall for the penninsula before he can rough-in for the prep sink. Things are looking great, and we don't have any mud to deal with! I am getting ridiculously excited, because I feel like we are over the halfway point!!

And yes, that is Dave. And yes, he looks like the unibomber.

It's hard to tell what the deck looks like. It runs the length around the back of our house, but isn't very wide. It is a reddish brown color (composite called Ultra Deck) and will have white posts and a white railing. The trusses hang over it, and maybe someday we'll enclose part of it to make a screened-in porch. I haven't run that by Dave though....

Here is Dave showing me the canned lights that will be in the soffit. There will also be a ceiling fan out there, which will be awesome on warm days.

Unibomber Dave. This is the view towards the Master Bedroom. You can see the (unpainted) door and more posts.

And just for fun, here's the future semi-driver for Mason Sound.

January 17, 2008...more decking!

We're getting closer to a finished deck! Very exciting!! They also installed all but one door.

Here's the french door in our bedroom.

Here's the deck (view from the master bedroom).

More deck (view from the living room french door).

Here's the door leading out to the deck from the foyer. Door overkill.

Step #19....the decking

Up goes the deck! Sort of. It took forever to get all of the decking in, and we are waiting on that to put the rest of the siding up. But, Menards delivered it yesterday, so things are progressing!

January 7, 2008

(Happy birthday, Luke!)
Okay...not much has taken place lately. We are waiting to get one more door in, so they can finish the siding. It is slow and frustrating. They are still working on the electric, and the plumber finally came by and started doing more of the rough in! Yippee!

Here are the guys working on the siding in the back.

The french door that came in damaged. :(

The shower in the maste bath. My shower head is going to be nice and low (left side) and Dave's is ULTRA high (on the right side).

Here is as far as they can go with the siding until they get the upper french door in.

Here's the tub/shower combo in Hallie's bathrooom.
