Step #5 - Setting the Forms

They set-up the forms yesterday, so we can really see where the outside walls will be now! Very exciting! They should start pouring the basement walls soon. It's supposed to rain today and tomorrow, so I'm thinking they will start pouring on Thursday. YAY!

Step #4 - The footings

Digging the footings...it's starting to feel more real now. We can see where the outside walls are going to be. I'm getting excited!

Step #3 - Digging the Basement

Not much to say about digging the basement. They pretty much finished digging it in a day or two. We decided to do a walk-out basement, so the hole looks gigantic!!

Step #2 - Move the Fence

There are currently several cows that reside in the pasture next to our future home. The fence for the pasture used to be on the left side of the picture below. We decided to move it to the right side of the road and the dam, so that we do not accidentally plow over an unsuspecting cow.

Step #1 - Dig a Well

Time to dig a well! I missed the "witching" of the well. Dave said it was really neat. The guy walked around in the timber and found a twig from a wild cherry tree. He widdled it down so that it was in a "Y" shape. He walked around with one hand on each of the "Y" points and the middle point facing up, against his forehead. As the twig "sensed" water, it would immediately point downwards and vibrate. They could tell the depth and the amount of water just by how much the twig vibrated. Creepy! I wish I could have seen it!

He found several spots that had water, but located one that was better than the others. He said that we would dig down 18 feet and find water, but should dig it 48-50 feet. So we did. We hit sand on the way down, so they had to move the spot a little and get a huge metal tube to drill through. But now we have our well!
